In 2019, commercial real estate contributed more to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Texas than any other state as reported by the Dallas Business Journal (DBJ). The commercial real estate industry contributed $54.15 billion to Texas’ economy in 2019, according to a new report from industry group NAIOP.

Huston-Tillotson University (HT) has formed the first ever academic real estate program of any HBCU in the country. The HT Real Estate Scholars Program was established to provide capital support, scholarships, internships and jobs to students enrolled in the concentration.

The Program commenced in 2024 and now has graduated its first student. Over 30 students are engaged with the Program, and 10 students have been provided scholarships. These students will be prepared to pursue real estate careers across investments, banking, property management, residential brokerage, appraisal, and other related careers.
